New York, Sept 26: Of all the cities in the Western world, there is none that Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee knows better than New York. He has come here nearly every year for the last two decades—often as a delegate to the UN General Assembly. This time, too, Vajpayee has taken to New York with all the vigour of a regular visitor. Days ago, landing in the city, he went out for a Chinese meal at his favourite New York restaurant.
And even when he's had to go for official banquets, he has had fun with his clothes. On Wednesday night, he went to have dinner with the President of Brazil, but switched from his standard bandhgalla to a Dunhill blazer and a fine cotton-knit grey poloneck shirt. Once you got over the surprise at seeing him go smartly dressed, it was hard to deny that the look suited him much more than the usual bandhgalla.
