Srinagar, May 27: Opposition National Conference
today joined Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed demanding
softening of Line of Control (LoC) to facilitate interaction
between people of Jammu and Kashmir on its either side.
"We welcome the latest thaw in relations between India
and Pakistan. Now, we hope that the two countries would soften
the Line of Control, ceding to a long-pending wish and demand
of people on its either side," NC General Secretary Shiekh
Nazir Ahmad said in a statement here.
Sheikh Nazir said his party hoped that effective measures
would be taken to allow people, who have been separated for
the past 55 years, to interact with each other.
"If bus service could be run between Lahore and Delhi,
why can't the Rawalpindi-Srinagar road be opened to facilitate
meetings between the real inheritors of the state," he added.
On the resolution of Kashmir issue, he said New Delhi and
Islamabad should respect the wishes and aspirations of people
of the state while deliberating on its future.
