Baripada (Orissa), July 13: Diarrhoea has claimed three lives and affected 11 others in Kanakupura village of Mayurbhanj district, official sources said today. The affected persons were admitted at the nearby public health centre for treatment during the last week.

A medical team had been deputed at the village to combat the disease, additional district medical officer Dr Niranjan rout said, adding all precautionary measures had been taken to prevent the disease from assuming epidemic proportion.

The villagers, under the leadership of Sanga Palia, chairman of Kaptipada Panchayat Samiti, gheraoed the Katuria Health Centre last evening demanding presence of doctors in the health centre. Most of the time the doctors are not available in the dispensary, they alleged.
