New Delhi, Dec 13: A grateful nation today remembered the supreme sacrifice made by valiant security personnel while protecting the seat of democracy from terrorist attack two years ago.
Leading the tributes are those very Members of Parliament who owe their lives to the courage of the soldiers. A function is to be held at the spot in the complex where the security personnel laid down their lives.
Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Najma Heptulla and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and others offered flowers at the plaque "The Martyrs of December 13, 2001. They foiled the terrorist attack on Parliament of India and died defending the democracy".
The dignitaries stood in silence for a few minutes in memory of those nine security personnel, including a woman, killed in the incident.
Advani also went round the blood donation camp organised in the Parliament house. Several security personnel and officials of parliament donated blood on the occasion. (
Today being a Saturday, there is no sitting of Parliament. However, both Houses, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, observed a minute`s silence as soon as they met yesterday in memory of those who were killed by terrorists.
