New Delhi, Jan 11: Maruti Udyog Ltd will showcase the prowess in small car technology of its parent, Suzuki Motor Corp., with display of five latest vehicles at the auto expo starting this week. This would include 'Concept S', which would form the base for small and mini cars of Suzuki in the near future, a company source said.
Japanese automaker Suzuki, which has 54.2 per cent stake in MUL, would also drive in the two-seater 'Twin Hybrid' car, compact sports-utility-vehicle 'Jimny', racing car 'Formula Hayabusa' and the 1299cc motorcycle 'Hayabusa GSX1300R', the source said.
India's biggest carmaker, MUL, which would use the automotive show as a platform to highlight Suzuki's leadership in small cars, would also present its own range of models in customised versions.
"The central message of the Maruti pavilion will be how Suzuki's experience in making motorcycles helps it in developing light, compact and performance-packed cars," the source said.
The display of the latest technology in cars could be considered significant as Suzuki had earlier announced plans to make MUL as its research and development hub for small cars for Asia, outside Japan.
As per the plan, MUL would be able to fully develop a new car model in India by 2007.
This year's auto expo would be the first after Suzuki took management control of MUL in May 2002. The company had not participated in the 2002 edition of the biennial show. Bureau Report
