Mumbai, Jan 07: Shiv Sena tonight formally decided against allying with the Sharad Pawar-led NCP for the forthcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Maharashtra. A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting of Sena leadership held at `Matoshree`, the suburban Bandra residence of Sena supremo Bal Thackeray. "We have decided not to ally with NCP", leader of the opposition in state assembly Narayan Rane told reporters after the meeting. Rane said there were reports in a section of the media about possible alliance between Sena-BJP and NCP but "we have decided not to join hands with NCP”. Rane refused to take any other question saying the party will issue a detailed press note in this connection. The Sena`s stance comes in the backdrop of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani`s recent meeting with the Sena Supremo in an effort to persuade Thackeray to allow NCP join the NDA at the Centre. Besides Bal Thackeray, Sena executive president Udhav Thackeray, Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi, Narayan Rane, Sena leaders Sushir Joshi and Pramod Navalkar also attended the meeting. Bureau Report
