Aizawl, Nov 05: Mizoram Congress president and former state Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has declared that graft cases punishable under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 were pending against him in a special court here, in an affidavit submitted along with his nomination papers.
Aizawl, Nov 05: Mizoram Congress president and former state Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has declared that graft cases punishable under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 were pending against him in a special court here, in an affidavit submitted along with his nomination papers.
In the affidavit, Lal Thanhawla, who is contesting from Champhai and Serchhip assembly constituencies, said cognizance had been taken against him by the court in corruption cases under Sections 7, 12, 13(1)(D) and 13(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 120 B of Indian Penal Code.
He, however, said that the special court had not framed charges against him as Gauhati High Court was yet to clear the writ petitions challenging the appointment of the special judge who was to try the cases.
According to the affidavit, the former Chief Minister has movable properties to the tune of Rs 4.5 lakh in cash, Rs.3.74 lakh in bank deposits, Rs.3 lakh in lic policy, Rs.50,000 worth jewellery and two gypsy cars.
He has liability of more than Rs.2.49 lakh to be paid to the state assembly secretariat.
His wife, Lalriliani has rupees two lakh in cash, Rs.3.77 lakh in bank accounts, Rs.52,105 in postal savings, Rs one lakh in LIC policy, jewelleries worth Rs.1.75 lakh and an Opel Astra car in her possession.
Lal Thanhawla was in possession of a building at Zarkawt here worth rs.40 lakh in market value, two agriculture lands worth Rs.14 lakh and three non-agricultural lands worth Rs.1.32 lakh.
His wife was having one agricultural land worth Rs five lakh and non-agricultural land worth Rs.10.88 lakh, the affidavit said. Bureau Report
