Mysore, Nov 23: Abdul Karim, father of slained sub inspector Shakeel Ahmed, today alleged that Karnataka government had gone back on its word to pay Rs 10 lakh as legal expenses for cases he filed on forest brigand Veerappan involving the state and threatened to go on fast in front of the Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore next week. Karim told reporters here that the government had assured him that it would meet the legal expenses if he did not bring in a stay against the release of Kollathur Mani on bail during the Nagappa kidnap episode.

Shakeel Ahmed was killed by Veerappan in the forest in early 1990's and Karim has been waging a legal battle against since then. During the Nagappa kidnap episode, Karim said, when he intended to bring a stay against the release of Kollathur Mani on bail, the Chief Minister, he alleged, had personally spoken to him over telephone at the Suttur Math, where the family of Nagappa was present, and requested him (Karim) not to bring in a stay order.

He alleged the CM had assured that if he complied with the request, the government would meet all the court expenses that he had incurred so far.

Karim said he obliged to the request of the Chief Minister and later sent an application in this regard to the then Governor Ramadevi. The government was keeping mum on the issue even after lapse of many years. Stating that he would not take it lying low any more, Karim said, he will stage a dharna in front of the Vidhana Soudha after Ramzan and launch fast unto death agitation.
