Kolkata, Feb 24: Elaborate security arrangements have been made throughout West Bengal in view of tomorrow's nationwide 24-hour strike called by the six central trade unions and central and state government employees' federations. The strike has been called to protest against the ''anti-people'' policies of the NDA government, including ban on strikes. Chief secretary Ashok Gupta told reporters here today that government offices would remain open and the employees who would not turn up would have to take a day's leave.
Gupta said efforts would also be made to operate buses and trams. Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Chayan Mukherjee said additional forces had been sent to industriual areas in south Bengal and tea gardens in north Bengal in view of the strike.
Mukherjee said patrolling would be intensified and actions taken against those who would create any obstruction in maintaining normal life.
