Kupwara (J&K), Dec 04: Ruling People's Democratic Party has asked militants to lay down arms as India and Pakistan have agreed to resolve their long pending problems amicably. "Hizbul Mujahideen must say good bye to the gun culture as it had promised to withdraw its activities at the time of beginning of negotiations between New Delhi and Islamabad," PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said at Langate yesterday.
The bonds of friendship and tranquility are being formed and travel of citizens of the two countries across the border is being eased, she said referring to several confidence building measures between India and Pakistan.
Mehbooba asked the militants to return home after laying down arms as militancy had taken a huge toll of life and property during last 15 years.
She also said the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road link would be opened soon and divided families longing to see each other since more than half a century will meet again peacefully.
People of J&K would be able to go for trade and commerce, selling their handicraft, goods and fruit in the markets of Pakistan, she added,
About human rights violations, Mehbooba said there were fewer allegations and the security agencies have been made more accountable since her party came to power adding those involved in violations have been brought to book.
