Nasik, July 28: Many sadhus and mahants, camping at specially prepared 'sadhu gram' here, spread over around 103 acres, were suffering from fever, cold and cough due to wet climatic conditions following incessant rains for the past two days. Health department of Nasik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken its medical squad, with mobile vans, to the sadhu gram and has so far provided treatment to 1,200 sadhus, NMC sources said here.
Sadhus have come to stay at sadhu gram in large numbers for the Kumbh Mela which gets underway on July 30. Even though the administration has provided basic amenities like toilets and drinking water, most of their tents are in open areas, facing rough climatic conditions. Meanwhile, the medical squad of the animal husbandry department is also monitoring the health of horses and elephants brought by sadhus in their camps for the Kumbh, they added.
