New Delhi, Sept 01: Congress today hinted it may take up the issue whether to join the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in UP after it finalises its response to Supreme Court notice on dropping of "conspiracy" charges against Deputy Prime Minister and others. "No decision has been taken to join the SP-led government in UP....we will certainly be discussing the issue when the state government finalises its response to Supreme Court notice," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters when asked to clarify party's stand on it.
Clarifying party's stated position that the dropping of CBI charges against Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, Union HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi and others was "illegal and surreptitious", he said notice has been issues to UP government. "Let us wait its response."
"Nobody can pre-empt state government from taking a decision on it. The govt is only a few days old. We have to wait till it finalises its response to Supreme Court on the matter," he said adding there was no discussion between Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sonia Gandhi on the issue of joining the government.
Asked if there was any condition attached to the issue, he said "it is not based on any conditions. The stage has not come. There are different opinions in the party, but what would be the decision is yet to be decided."
