Raipur, Nov 26: The Centre plans to upgrade and modernise the ports in the country through an ambitious Golden Sea Chain Project, Shipping Minister Satrughan Sinha said on Tuesday. "The draft of the Golden Sea Chain Project will soon be presented before the Cabinet through which we plans to upgrade and modernise our ports," he told reporters here.
Through this plan the capacity of the ports would be enhanced, Sinha said, adding about 80 per cent of the export and import of the country was being handled through the shipping sector.

The Ministry is also working on to revive the water mode of transport as it is cost effective and cheaper than the road transport, which has a potential of saving about Rs 1000 crore, he said. Bureau Report
