Chennai, Nov 29: Pointing a finger at the Congress government in Assam where anti-Bihari violence claimed several lives, Union Minister of State for Home Swami Chinmayanda today said there was lack of vigilance and the government had not acted "properly".
"I think there was lack of vigilance and immediate steps should (have) be taken, but not..," he told reporters at the Meenambakkam Airport here.
The minister replied in the affirmative when asked whether he thought Congress government had not acted properly to stem the violence.
To a question, he said Ulfa was behind the whole problem and added that the situation was now under control. "I can say this is a big game of Ulfa. We are trying to resolve all the problems and now the situation is under control," he said.
He declined to comment when asked about allegations linking AICC president Sonia Gandhi to the stamp paper scam.
Asked about Karnataka and Maharashtra governments refusal to seek a CBI probe into the multi-crore scam, he said, "I think there is something behind. So they are avoiding."
He dismissed the pre-poll surveys which had predicted a bad showing by BJP in three states going to the polls and said the party would in fact gain because they were ruled by the Congress.
On the Centre`s stand on the Ayodhya issue, he said, "We are waiting for the court decision." Bureau Report
