Pondicherry, Mar 31: AIADMK and BJP today staged a walk-out in the Pondicherry territorial assembly on different issues during the question hour. The two-member AIADMK group walked out minutes after the house met in the morning, protesting against “non-inclusion” of a question relating to the plight of workers of a private glass factory while lone BJP member A M Krishnamoorthy's protest came over the issue of supply of ration cards to economically poor people.
Protesting against non-inclusion of his question relating to the glass factory, AIADMK legislator A.Anbalagan said the denial of permission for striking at the root of his right. He then walked out of the house along with party colleague A Kasilingam.
Krishnamoorthy demanded firm measures to ensure that the really economically poor were issued 'red' colour ration cards which enabled them to benefit from welfare schemes.
Replying, local administration minister A.Elumalai assured steps would be taken for fresh enumeration in this regard. However, the BJP member wanted interim arrangements and failing to secure them walked out.
At one stage, ruling Congress member M O H F Shahjahan also demanded proper distribution of red colour cards. He said even the affluent people possessed these cards meant for only the poor, he said. Bureau Report
