New Delhi, May 27: As part of its humanitarian assistance to flood-affected areas of Sri Lanka, India has decided to despatch a multi-disciplinary team to Colombo soon with relief supplies, official sources said today. The team will carry with it portable communication systems, more dinghys, blankets, medical supplies and other material, the sources said.

In keeping with the spirit of close and friendly relations with Sri Lanka, New Delhi responded immediately following a request from Colombo to help flood-affected areas of Ratnapura, Kalutara, Matara and Galle. On May 18, Indian naval ship 'Sharda' had sailed to Sri Lanka carrying doctors, medicines, search and rescue Chetak helicopters, 30 specialists along with emergency relief material for the flood victims.

India also flew two sorties two days later with 12 doctors, a rescue team of 50 officials with medical supplies.

Meanwhile, CII is organising a made in India show in Colombo which will be inaugurated by the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinge. More than 100 Indian companies are participating in the show which has been supported by the ministries of industry and commerce, the Sri Lankan government and the Indian High Commission in Colombo.

India's prowess in information technology, light engineering goods and pharmaceuticals are going to be showcased at the exhibition.
