New Delhi, May 14: The Central Vigilance Commission today said it has advised launching of prosecution against 12 officers during April, besides imposition of major penalty against 79 officials. The 12 officers against whom the CVC advised launching of prosecution included one each from the Ministry of Railways, Department of Telecom, Central Board of Excise and Customs and Chandigarh administration; two officers from Central Board of Direct Taxes and three each from Food Corporation of India and Comptroller and Auditor General of India, a CVC release here said. In pursuance of the commission's advice, the competent administrative authorities issued sanctions for prosecution in respect of three officers including an assistant general manager of State Bank of India, it said. Based on investigation reports submitted by CBI and chief vigilance officers, the commission had advised initiation of major penalty proceedings in 161 cases. The CVC also advised imposition of major penalty in 79 cases involving officers from different ministries, Delhi government and public sector units. Suitable penalty was also imposed on 53 officers based on the commission's advice tendered in earlier months. The commission had also in April recommended initiation of minor penalty proceedings in 107 cases and imposition of minor penalty in 20 cases, besides closure and exoneration of charges in 86 cases. The CVC also gave vigilance clearance in 14 cases for appointment of officials in different organisations.
