Vajpayee modesty personified at function to commemorate poet
Lucknow, Nov 27: At a commemorative function for leading Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was today modesty personified, saying he took exception to being addressed as a poet.
Lucknow, Nov 27: At a commemorative function for leading Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was today modesty personified, saying he took exception to being addressed as a poet.
"I take exception to being addressed as a poet at a function being held in memory of a great poet like Harivansh Rai Bachchan," he said while releasing a postage stamp of the late litterateur.
"In fact, I am not a poet but something like a poet. To be frank, I could neither pursue politics nor was able to practise poetry in the true sense of the term," Vajpayee added.
