Manasbal (J-K), Oct 03: Underlining the importance of job-oriented education, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has said his government would soon evolve a policy where talent and propensity play a major role for a student to decide the stream of study to be pursued. "We are formulating a policy where aptitude of a student would be the deciding factor for pursuing higher education," he said addressing the annual day function of Sainik School, held after a gap of 14 years, here yesterday.
Mufti said the expansion programme in education sector has to go hand in hand with the pursuit of excellence. "Our effort is to improve the scenario of knowledge and learning in the state to enable our children to compete globally," he said, adding the private sector has been asked to invest in education.
With a call to encourage talented students from weaker sections of the society, the chief minister said prestigious educational institutions should reserve seats for such children. He said the government would pay for the education of some of the talented students in public schools from ordinary families. Ten such students have been admitted in Delhi Public School in the state, he added.
Pointing out that education is his government's top priority, mufti said the standard of education in government schools would be improved and steps in this direction have been initiated.
