Mumbai, Feb 12: In an indication of political realignment in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena today appealed to Dalits to join the party for making the state strong and vibrant but ruled out change in its Hindutva agenda to accommodate them. “Shiv Sena's Hindutva is nothing but nationalism and I call upon neo-Buddhists to work in tandem with Sena to bring about a revolutionary change in the state's rich cultural and ideological heritage", Uddhav Thackeray, Sena's new Executive President said. Uddhav's remarks assume significance as Dalits constitute 11.5 per cent of Maharashtra' population and have consistently sided with the congress. The Sena's move to woo Dalits is also considered important in view of Congress installing veteran Dalit leader Sushilkumar Shinde as the Chief Minister. Sena leader had made a similar plea to Dalits at a function in Mumbai last night, attended by RPI MP Ramdas Athavale whose party is part of the ruling democratic front. Bureau Report
