India today expelled a staff member of the Pakistan High Commission who was found indulging in activities incompatible with his official status, a diplomatic euphemism for spying. Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner Jaleel Abbas Gilani was summoned to the external affairs ministry and informed that the staffer, Malik Muhammad Rafique, was engaged in such activities and should be asked to leave the country within a week. The government has sought Rafique's ''withdrawal'' from India by August 31, a foreign office spokesman told reporters here.
