Union power minister Rangarajan P Kumaramangalam, who died on Wednesday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences after a grim battle against acute myeloid leukemia (blood cancer) for 12 days was cremated in the evening at the electric crematorium in New Delhi with full state honours. His son Mohan performed the last rites. National flag flew at half-mast on government buildings throughout the country as a mark of respect to the departed soul. The funeral was attended by a host of political leaders and dignitaries including home minister LK Advani, former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar and cabinet ministers besides his family members. President K R Narayanan, Vice President Krishan Kant and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee led a host of political leaders from different parties in condoling his death, describing him as a dynamic personality who had made his mark in public life at a young age.
