Los Angeles, Oct 20: Online film download service Movielink said on Monday it is launching a Web site with Internet portal service Lycos in the first co-branding deal Movielink has made in order to widen its customer base.
Movielink offers Web surfers a legal service to download digital movie files via high-speed connections and replay the films on their PCs or laptop computers at prices ranging from $2.95 to $4.99 per title.
The new site, at http://lycos.movielink.com, will allow Lycos users to easily access films from nearly every major Hollywood movie studio. Lycos is owned by Spanish Internet provider Terra Lycos.
Movielink launched its service nearly one year ago and recently announced an upgrade to its site and software, and a new, national advertising and promotional campaign.
The service is owned by five of Hollywood's major movie studios -- Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. - and offers Disney films.
The studios see Movielink as a way to offer a service that would compete with free, movie swap sites that offer illegally copied films in digital computer files.
The studios are divisions of media corporations Time Warner Inc, Viacom Inc, Vivendi Universal and Sony Corp. Disney studios is owned by Walt Disney Co. Bureau Report
