Kolkata, June 06: Two days before polling in the by-election to Lok Sabha from Nabadwip in West Bengal, the Election Commission today replaced the returning officer(RO). Former chief electoral officer of the state, S K Magon has been brought in for the June 8 poll in place of Krishna Gupta.

State Election Department sources said no reason was cited for the removal of Gupta - Nadia district magistrate.

They said the Election Commission had communicated its decision to replace Gupta to state's chief electoral officer Nurul Haq.

State Congress general secretary Manas Bhuinya said the Election Commission had taken the step following the party's complaints against Gupta for his alleged "violation" of the code of conduct.
