The Supreme Court on Monday gave a conditional order extending the CNG deadline till September 30, 2001 only for those operators who have placed firm orders to buy CNG buses against their old vehicles. The Delhi government had pleeded to extend the deadline by another year. The Supreme Court`s had set the deadline for the Delhi government to introduce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuelled buses, taxis and three-wheelers in the city as April 1.
The state government says it is not prepared to adhere to the SC deadline. The SC is expected to give its final decision on this matter today. As of now there are only 500 CNG buses on the road. Moreover there are even lesser numbers of CNG filling stations.
