Seoul, Sept 26: South Korea's Samsung Electronics said on Thursday it agreed with Japanese rival Mitsubishi Electric to jointly develop tiny cameras used for mobile electronic devices. Under the tie-up, the two would develop chips used to run cameras for mobile phones, personal digital assistants and handheld computers.

Samsung expected new technology, which should be compatible for both firms, to be developed by the end of this year.
"The strategic alliance will enable us to secure leadership in the global mobile solutions market" ahead of the launch of the next generation wireless communications services, it said in a statement.

Under the deal, Samsung will offer Mitsubishi the complementary metal-oxide semiconductor image sensor technology that is used for changing light into electrical signals for small cameras.
Mitsubishi, in return, will provide Samsung with the image signal processor technology that digitalizes image signals. Bureau Report
