Mumbai, Oct 12: BJP in Maharashtra today claimed that over 10,000 of its activists were arrested after the party resorted to a state-wide agitation against the DF government for recurrent load shedding in parts of the state and highlight its demand for more remunerative prices for cotton cultivators. "Nearly 80,000 party workers participated in the agitations held at around 650 places across Maharashtra", BJP spokesman Prakash Jawdekar told reporters here.
BJP is protesting against frequent load shedding in Maharashtra and is demanding Rs 2,300 rate per quintal for cotton growers under the state's monopoly cotton procurement scheme and enhanced prices for milk to benefit the farming community.
In Marathwada, BJP national vice-president Gopinath Munde leading the agitation alleged that "inept" DF government was responsible for acute power shortage.

Though the parts of the state are reeling under drought, the government was resorting to load shedding, which was affecting the farmers, he claimed.
Maharashtra BJP chief Pandurang Phundkar led a morcha of party workers to MSEB office in Kalyan in neighbouring Thane district. He warned that the party would resort to severe agitation from October 18 if the government fails to undertake "corrective measures".
Similar protests and rasta roko were held in other parts of the state under the leadership of BJP leaders Sudhir Mungantiwar, Daulatrao Aher and Vishwas Gangurde. Bureau Report
