Bangalore, May 15: The first national car rally of the year kicks off next weekend at the scenic and exotic Western Ghats town of Chikmangalur with top guns like Naren Kumar, Leela Krishnan and Arjun Bala fighting it out for top honours.
The rally in the four-wheeler category, title sponsor of which is 'Coffee Day', is one of the nine certified calendar events of the motorsports association of india (MAI).
Top drivers, including Karandeep Singh, Vikram Mathais and Jibby Malakal, would be seen in action in the two-day Coffee Day Championship Rally, that takes off on May 24, key officials behind the organising team told reporters here.
The 330-km rally, organised by the motorsports club of Chikmangalur, will have 10 laps spread over two days through two tracks in blue mountain estates.
As many as 22 teams have confirmed participation in the event, Cafe Coffee Day head-marketing, Sudipta Mukherjee, said.



Cafe Coffee Day has committed title sponsorship for the event for the next 10 years, she said, adding that there was also an ambitious plan to bid to host the Asia Pacific Rally Championship.
