Leeds, Oct 19: Champions Manchester United beat Leeds United 1-0 in the English premier league. Captain Roy Keane headed a late winner for Manchester United to snatch a 1-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday (October 18).
Former Leeds defender Rio Ferdinand was booed by Leeds fans and Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo too, as he appealed for a penalty after tussling with Leeds defender Gary Charles early on.
Leeds, lying in 16th place, held on well against their stronger opponents and Jermaine Pennant, on loan from Arsenal, carved a cross before Gary Neville cleared the danger for Manchester.
Ronaldo, replacing the injured Ryan Giggs, came close with a long range effort after the break as the ball clipped the woodwork. The match looked set for a goalesss draw after substitute Diego Forlan once again fail to hit the target.


Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy also missed chances but the Dutch's perseverance paid off. After forcing a clearance from Leeds' defence, he stole the ball from Senegal's Lamine Sakho and fed Gary Neville, who sent a superb cross to Keane to score with a header at the far post in the 81st minute.


Paul Scholes should have made it 2-0 in stoppage time, hitting the bar from point blank range. The win sent United to provisional top slot in the premier league on 22 points, two ahead of both Chelsea and Arsenal, who were meeting later in a showcase London derby at Highbury.
