Chennai, June 15: An outbreak of cholera has claimed six lives and left over 1,000 people hospitalised in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu in the past three days. Contaminated water from a well in a village had been identified as the cause for the spread of the disease, official sources here said today.

The affected persons with symptoms associated with cholera had been admitted to government hospitals in Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Pennagaram.

Additional doctors had been rushed to the hospitals and medical teams despatched to the affected villages to inoculate the residents, the sources said.
