Spaldings, Jamaica, Oct 26: At school, John Lee Malvo won over teachers with his studiousness and even temper. He wore his khaki uniform, stayed out of trouble and displayed an active intellect that suggested a bright future, his teachers said. While authorities proceeded with charges against the 17-year-old in the us sniper shootings yesterday, the teachers who educated the Jamaican were asking themselves what had gone wrong.
"What has changed him so much?" asked Patricia Deaco, his eighth-grade teacher. "He was never a troublesome child." Malvo's 1997 report card from spalding high school lists mostly A's and B's, with a smattering of C's. The report card is filled with glowing remarks from teachers who reacted with shock over the news that Malvo is being held in connection with the deadly Washington-area shootings.

He was arrested Thursday in Maryland along with US army veteran John Allen Muhammad. Last night, authorities in Maryland charged each with six counts of first-degree murder.
"As I look through his file, I have to wonder if he is the same boy," spalding principal Delcy Williams said.
