Lucknow, July 29: About 40 people, including several schoolchildren, were injured when police resorted to lathicharge on a mob pressing for improvement in civic amenities in a locality here, police sources said today. As many as 25 people, including officials of the local St Mary's School, were later arrested for disturbing peace, police sources said.
SSP Lucknow Rajiv Ranjan Verma alleged that the school officials, including the principal, instigated the children of the school to squat on the railway line leading to unnecessary hindrance of the movement of railway traffic yesterday.
While 16 of the arrested were later released, nine others were still in custody, he added.
Meanwhile, school officials said police resorted to lathicharge on the children and residents yesterday when they were holding a demonstration to press for improving the civic amenities in the locality. Bureau Report
