Dhaka, July 02: Bangladesh authorities arrested two Indians and sealed a large area in the northwestern part bordering adjoining west Bengal following a massive haul of arms and explosives, media reports said today. Authorities sealed the entire border area in Rajshahi division and launched combing operations in the area after yet another seizure of ammunition and explosives in two villages under Kahalu Upazilas of Bogra district yesterday.
The recovery of over 26 thousand bullets and 48 kg of explosives yesterday from an abandoned truck loaded with pineapples took to 86,600 the number of bullets recovered in two days while 163 kgs of explosives was seized by the police, a report in the "independent" newspaper said. Over 62,000 bullets and about 115 kg of explosives were recovered from various places in Kahalu Upazila, including the house of a local leader of main opposition Awami League earlier.
Bangladesh rifles arrested two Indians and recovered two firearms and a wireless set from them at the Satchhari forest range in Chunarughat Upazila in Habiganj. Those arrested were understood to be relatives of Ashish Deb Barman, owner of the arms laden truck seized in Bogra, the Daily Star said.
The search being jointly conducted by police and BDR also covered passengers crossing border points to and from India. A senior police official said "more recovery of ammunition and explosives was likely" as the joint operations continued. Bureau Report
