Srinagar, Aug 13: Even though the Centre rejected the proposal for a ceasefire on the Line of Control from Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, Jammu and Kashmir unit of CPI(M) today said the proposal deserves a positive response
and urged the two countries to declare a one in Kashmir to carry forward the peace process.
"Pakistan President's proposal for a ceasefire on the LoC, no doubt, deserves a positive response. But in order that the peace process is carried forward in a meaningful and fruitful manner, the guns booming in this part of the LoC have to be silenced," party's secretary in the state, Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami said here.
In order that the urge for peace takes concrete shape, a ceasefire has to be called here to avoid further bloodletting which alone can create a conducive atmosphere in the region for a purposeful dialogue and negotiations, Tarigami said.
Calling upon both governments to declare and implement on the ground a ceasefire, he said a process of re-thinking has set in the entire region with rising expectations for peace and reconciliation. He said the yearning for peace in the sub-continent was asserting itself amidst growing interaction between political leaders, legislators, mediamen, journalists and others belonging to the two countries.
