New Delhi, May 19: India today extended a 10 million dollar Exim Bank Line of Credit to Djibouti and agreed to provide assistance worth one million dollar to meet humanitarian requirements in the wake of drought in that country. After wide-ranging discussions between visiting Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the two sides signed an agreement for cooperation in the civil aviation sector, another on bilateral investment promotion and protection and a third one on cultural exchange programme.
Welcoming the Prime Minister's peace initiatives with Pakistan, Guelleh said his country supported resolution of India-Pakistan issues through bilateral dialogue based on the 1972 Simla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration of 1999.
He said Djibouti supported India's candidature for a permanent seat in an enlarged UN Security Council. The two sides decided to coordinate positions in the international fora.
Djibouti has decided to open its embassy in India to facilitate closer contacts between the two countries, comprehensive and sustained.
Both sides underlined the need for the global fight against terrorism to address those who instigate, support or assist terrorism, as much as those who perpetrate terrorism.
