Baghdad, Nov 04: President Saddam Hussein held a
meeting of military commanders, state media said, after
warning that Iraq was ready to face up to any US-led military
campaign and telling US and British soldiers it would not be a
cakewalk.
"The president listened to a briefing on the stages
achieved by the fighters and the Mujahedeen .... In
strengthening the capacity of iraq to resist the forces of
injustice and tyranny," the state INA news agency said after
the strongman met with commanders and other senior officials
yesterday.
Earlier, Saddam said in a rare interview that Iraq was
ready for war.
"We are preparing ourselves as if war were to take place in one hour. We are psychologically ready," he told Egyptian weekly Elosoba in the interview published on its www.elosoba.com website.
"We are thus prepared for war," Saddam said, and warning the United States that "Iraq will never be like Afghanistan."
"That is not to say that we are stronger than the united states, which has fleets and long-range missiles. But we have our faith in god, the homeland and the Iraqi people as well as the Arab people."
