The low lying areas of Alipurduar subdivision and municipal areas remained inundated, the sources said.
River Torsa caused a major breach eroding about 900 metres of Dalsingpara embankment, sources added. Irrigation engineers and labourers are working round-the-clock to protect the bundh.
The additional district magistrate, Alipurduar, has expressed apprehension that the tea gardens, adjacent villages, forests and roads would be affected if the embankment got eroded.
