Srinagar, Aug 25: Calling for an end to the senseless violence in Jammu and Kashmir, Finance Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig has said long-lasting peace between India and Pakistan would not only stop innocent bloodshed in the state but could also pave a way for the overall economic development in both the countries.
"Time is not far away when the people in both the countries will live in peace and tranquility leaving behind the past bitterness," Baig said speaking at a function organised by District Sainik Welfare Board here yesterday.
He said ongoing initiatives taken by the Indo-Pak leaders and increasing people-to-people contact were good steps which could in the long run prove fruitful in putting an end to the hostilities between the two neighbouring countries.
The continued hostilities between New Delhi and Islamabad and the bloody turmoil in the state have only added to the miseries of the people resulting in the ever increasing number of widows and orphans, he said.
"This senseless violence has to be put to an end and there could not be better time than this as the people of the state are now yearning for peace and are looking towards the leaders of both the countries to pull them out of this bloody turmoil", he said.

The Finance Minister distributed financial assistance to the next of kins, mostly widows, of the soldiers killed in action against militants.

Responding to the demands of the District Sainik Welfare, Srinagar, Baig said he would look into their genuine demands sympathetically.
