Srinagar, June 02: Supporting the idea for reopening of Rawalpandi road linking Jammu and Kashmir with PoK, the National Conference today attributed the failure of the party to retain power in the last assembly elections to its own shortcomings and mistakes. "People of the state got angry with us for some shortcomings, weaknesses and mistakes, otherwise, our party enjoys full support of the people," National Conference president Omar Abdullah said in a statement here.
The National Conference was not only a party but also a movement, he said.
Lending support to the proposal for reopening of Rawalpandi Road, Abdullah said the demand was first made by his grandfather and founder of the party Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
When the demand was made, Sheikh Abdullah and his associates were dubbed as Pakistani and Americian agents by those very people who are today advocating reopening of the road, he said apparently referring to ruling Congress-PDP coalition's demand for reopening of the road. Bureau Report
