The cable TV blackout in the capital continued for the second day on Wednesday with cable operators warning that such agitation’s could become a routine feature if their grievances were not remedied.
The Cable TV Operators United Front (CTOUF), which is spearheading the three-day strike, has sought an appointment with Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley to discuss their demands, which include a law to regulate private television channels. Alleging that government had resorted to the recent amendments to the Cable TV Network Act to sidetrack its failure in bringing a comprehensive broadcasting law, CTOUF said that there was no justification in holding the cable operators responsible for the programme content of the channels.
