Four people were killed and several others injured in renewed clashes between CPI(M) and BJP activists in Kannur, the politically volatile district of Kerala, during the past 24 hours. Police said two CPI(M) activists and an equal number of BJP supporters were hacked to death in separate incidents since Sunday night. At least 20 people were injured, some of them seriously, in the fresh bout of political clashes in this district during the past two days. CPI(M) activist Mulloli Vijesh(18) was found killed in paddy field at Mayambaram in Koothuparamba, which was allegedly in retaliation to the murder of a BJP activist Biju(20) at Valannur under Malur police station limits on Monday.
Earlier in the day, CPI(M) activist Sreejit(21) was hacked to death at Panur, after a BJP activist C K Chandran was killed in a bomb attack at Vattipuram under Koothuparamba police station limits Sunday night. Chandran's wife, who was with him, was admitted to the hospital. In related incidents, three BJP activists were on Monday admitted to the Thalasseri government hospital with stab injuries.
