Yugoslavia cannot evade responsibility for war crimes committed by members of its armed forces and paramilitary formations or by its other citizens, Mesic said on Monday in a statement.
He added that Yugoslavia was responsible for bringing guilty persons to justice, and that it must upon request from the tribunal (international criminal tribunal for the former Yugoslavia) in the Hague to deliver them to that court.
Meanwhile, Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic said that the victory by Opposition candidate Vojislav Kostunica in September 24 Yugoslavian elections, following democratic changes in Croatia, would be beneficial for Bosnia.
“We now have a Democratic Croatia under a government with which we can solve the remaining problems. They will no longer interfere with the internal issues of Bosnia and Herzegovina. East of us, in Serbia, key events happened in the last days that will change the history of this region,” Izetbegovic said during an address to Bosnian army commanders.
“Serbia will be unwilling or unable to interfere in our country,” Izetbegovic added. Bureau Report
