Ninety one cases of undertrials languishing in Tihar Jail on charges of petty offences have been disposed of by a special court organised inside the jail complex. The chief matropolitan magistrate (cmm), who took up 110 cases of the undertrials, disposed of 91 of these cases on Saturday, jail sources said.
Fifty eight prisoners were such who were supposed to be released on Saturday itself, they said adding the rest would be released within a month or so. A group of 100 students from campus law centre of Delhi University actively participated in the court proceedings, the students, who are working under the guidance of Prof. B B Pandey on a pilot project on prison reforms, drafted the confession application of the prisoners, the sources said.
The special court is being organised on the directions of the Chief Justice of India (CJI). It was fifth such court organised in the jail complex in which the participating prisoners showed willingness to confess their guilt, sources added.
