The Supreme Court, hearing the case on the relese of 121 TADA detenues and five Tamil extremists from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu jails, adjourned the hearing to Wednesday.
The two state governments are supposed to present their case on Wednesday.
Earlier, apex court lawyer B.L. Wadhera on Tuesday said the Rajkumar kidnap drama was nothing but a lethal combination of crime and politics.
Wadhera has filed a petition in the court against the release of prisoners. The hearing commenced in the morning.
“The States could not nab Veerappan due to lack of political will. And there is no basis for any apprehension by Karnataka about the law and order problem … if the prisoners are not released,” Wadhera told a three-judge bench.
Karnataka had told the court that there would be a law and order problem if Rajkumar’s release was further delayed. The State had pleaded that prisoners be released in exchange for Rajkumar as demanded by Veerappan.
Former Tamil Nadu DGP Walter Davaram, who was responsible for reducing the size of Veerappan’s gang in the ‘90s, told the court that he was willing to venture into the forest again and nab the brigand.
