Mc Grath ousted Vice-Captain Sherwin Campbell (3), ace batsman Brian Lara (0) and Captain Jimmy Adams (0) with the third, fourth and fifth balls of his fifth over as the tourists skidded to a woeful 19-4.
Mc Grath's third consecutive wicket came immediately after he notched up 300 test wickets with Lara's dismissal.
The 30-year-old new south Welshman becomes only the third Australian to reach that milestone, joining leg-spinner Shane Warne (366) and speed legend Dennis Lillee (355).
Mc Grath's memorable spell follows fast in the wake of his remarkable match-winning 10-27 haul in the first test in Brisbane last weekend.
