Trinamool Congress (TC) on Sunday criticized the appointment of Buddhadev Bhattacharjee as the next chief minister of West Bengal alleging he had failed to maintain law and order in the state as a home minister.
Bhattacharjee will take over tomorrow, when Jyoti Basu relinquishes office after 24 years.

Pankaj Banerjee, Chairman of Trinamool Congress policy-making body, told a party rally in Calcutta that the law and order situation in the state had sharply deteriorated during Bhattacharjee's tenure as the home (police) minister.
“The situation would further deteriorate with his appointment as the chief minister,” he said.

“Basu chose to step down when crores of people in the state were affected by the man made flood,” he said, alleging CPI-M was making much fanfare on the issue instead of rehabilitating the victims.
The rally was attended among others by party chief whip in Lok Sabha, Sudip Bandopadhyay, MPs Akbar Ali khondakar and Jayanta Bhattacharya, besides MLA Sobhandev Chattopadhyay and Sadhan Pandey. Bureau Report
