Jammu and Kashmir government has issued orders for construction of 1000 household bunkers and 100 community bunkers each in the shelling prone areas of border districts of Baramulla and Kupwara, an official spokesman said on Thursday. The construction of household bunkers would be done by beneficiaries themselves at the cost of Rs 20,000 each. The beneficiaries would be paid Rs 17,445 in three installments, he said. The community bunkers, to be built by the rural engineering department, would cost Rs 35,000 each, the spokesman said, adding in all about Rs 5 crore would be spent on the construction of bunkers in the first phase. This follows a meeting between the acting Chief Minister Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah with a delegation from Karnah village of frontier district of Kupwara on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the divisional commissioner, Kashmir, Khursheed Ahmad Ganai released Rs 40 lakh as exgratia for the victims of shelling from across the border in Kupwara and Baramulla districts.
