Communist Party of India (CPI) Andhra Pradesh unit Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy on Sunday alleged that the resignation of Railways Minister and Trinamool Congress Leader Mamata Banerjee was a 'drama' to exert pressure on the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre to ‘disturb’ the left front government in West Bengal. Addressing a press conference here, he said that the ‘true colour’ of Banerjee would be known in a week and the whole drama would come to an end.
He said that even Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu writing a letter to Prime Minister A B Vajpayee over the steep hike in petroleum products was just a 'token of resistance' and an 'eyewash' to fool the public. Reddy said that the CPI, along with like-minded parties, would launch state-wide agitations until the government rolls back the price hike. The people in state were paying the highest sales tax and demanded the government to reduce it. He criticised the police for preventing the nine left parties from erecting a martyr's memorial on September 28 at a traffic island at Basheerbagh in Hyderabad and name it as Shaheed Chowk in memory of the three party activists who were killed during the 'chalo assembly' march on August 28. The left parties would pursue their goal till a memorial was erected, he asserted. Bureau Report
