Army Chief General S Padmanabhan on Tuesday said that the response to the ongoing Ramzan ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir has been satisfactory although some groups do not seem to like to live in peace. The response has been satisfactory in general terms and we could move to other things from here, the general told reporters after inaugurating a seminar cum exhibition on application of information technology in defence. Asked if the level of satisfaction was good enough for extension of the ceasefire, Gen Padmanabhan said that it was an uncharted area and it was for the government to take a final decision.

Whenever the government asks for my advice (on the extension), I will give it, he said in reply to a question. The Army Chief said that some groups did not seem to favour the concept of peace but the army was applying strict restraint.

This might change, he remarked adding nothing in this world is static.

To a question whether army would go pro-active if militant attacks still persisted, the Army Chief said, “if somebody is shooting at me, I can't be throwing flowers. We will deal with them appropriately.” Bureau Report
