New Vice Chief for change in archaic army rules
Western Command Chief Lt Gen Vijay Oberoi, who is to take over as Vice Chief of army shortly, said, on Saturday, his endeavour would be to get the army out of its 100 year old archaic rules and regulation which delayed projects, including procurement and administrative.

Addressing a press conference at the Western Command headquarters in Haryana, Lt Gen Oberoi said his aim would be to get these rules changed so that delays were avoided.
Decentralisation of budget is another area which would get his attention to end delays, he added.
He said that jointmanship of the three services needs to be improved for war preparedness. I am afraid till today we have not achieved the jointmanship as it ought to be among the three services, Lt Gen Oberoi said adding that focus would also be on restructuring of higher defence installations and overall modernisation of Indian Army.
He said that enhancing operational preparedness and bring about a vast improvement in military intelligence would also be amongst his priorities as he would be directly supervising director generals of operations and intelligence. Bureau Report
